The fall season often begins with gorgeous weather, which may be ideal for walking, hiking, jogging or cycling outdoors. However, the weather can quickly transition, and it may soon be too frigid to exercise outdoors. Finding a way to stay in shape when outdoor activities are not a reasonable option can be tricky, but there are a few thoughtful ideas to consider.
Hit the Gym
Many people dislike working out in a crowded gym, but this is an option to consider. With treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, weights and more, a gym may have everything that you need to stay in shape throughout the fall and beyond. Many larger gyms also have an indoor pool and group fitness classes that you can try. As an alternative, create a home gym in your garage or in a spare room.
A fun idea is to go dancing with friends or a signification other. Dancing may work most of your muscles, depending on the type of dance that you do. In addition, it is a fun social activity that can get you out of the house when the weather is bad. This is a healthy alternative to sitting in a movie theater or enjoying many other common activities during the cold weather season. Yoga is another idea to consider. It is great for all ages, and you can find a beginner class to get started. Some people even enjoy practicing yoga at home by teaching themselves poses. Start with a 20-minute workout and eventually build up to an hour-long workout. This activity can tone and strengthen most muscles in the body, and some types of yoga are also a great cardio workout. Yoga is an activity that you can enjoy first thing in the morning after you learn a few poses, or you can work in a few poses during your lunch break to keep your body feeling invigorated throughout the afternoon.
